What We Do
Practising What We Preach

Green power

"Yes, we practise what we preach about sustainable business practises."

Here are just a few of the things we do to make our business more environmentally sustainable.

Our office is powered by Green Power
We purchase 100% accredited wind power from GreenSwitch to supply our office, saving 2.4 tonnes of CO2 a year. The image to the right shows the Woolnorth Wind Farm that supplies 50% of our green power - copyright www.wwindea.org.

We monitor all energy use
We have developed energy management tools to track all direct energy inputs to our business: electricity, natural gas and petrol. This has enabled us to establish a baseline to monitor our energy performance.

Indoor air quality
Indoor air can be more polluted than the air outside. Studies at the University of Technology, Sydney have shown that the use of indoor potted plants can significantly reduce the amount of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in the air. We use a variety of indoor plants to improve our air quality and create a more vibrant workspace.

Printing and office stationery
Our aim is to be an 'electronic office', avoiding all printing. We currently track all printing to monitor and improve our performance. We purchase 100% recycled paper for our office stationery needs. Our business cards are printed on 100% recycled paper.

Energy efficiency
We have implemented several simple and cost effective energy saving measures. We replaced inefficient 50W halogen downlights with high efficiency 35W & 20W IR halogen downlights, saving 262kWh of electricity per annum.

Recycling
To make it easier to recycle have we use 'under desk' floor boxes to collect recycling material, reducing the amount of recyclable material that goes to land fill.

Choosing businesses with a strong environmental performance
In order to truly embrace a culture of environmentally sustainable business practices it was important for us to consider all inputs and services to our business.
Prior to selecting a financial institution we researched and compared the environmental performance of several banks. In the end we decided to go with Westpac, who were able to demonstrate industry leading sustainability practices. With Westpac we opted to receive our statements online, saving unnecessary printing and mailing.
